Case studies on stratigraphic interpretation and sand mapping using volume-based seismic waveform decomposition

چکیده

A seismic volume of a certain stratigraphic layer may be decomposed into components for channel analysis. In the first case study of stratigraphic interpretation, the relative amplitude of the first component outlines the channel. The relative amplitude of the second component discovers different lithological or stratigraphical features inside the channel. The relative amplitude of the third component reveals a yoke lake. In the second case study of fluvial sand mapping, multi-wavelet seismic trace decomposition and reconstruction (An, 2006) was used to enhance the difference of fluvial sand from the other reflections. The fluvial sand is then mapped using volume-based decomposition on the new reconstructed seismic data in the area. The result show very high correlation with drilling results in the area.

Constrained Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy of Asmari - Kajhdumi interval with well-log Data

Sequence stratigraphy is a key step in interpretation of the seismic reflection data. It was originally developed by seismic specialists, and then the usage of high-resolution well logs and core data was taken into consideration in its implementation. The current paper aims in performing sequence stratigraphy using three-dimensional seismic data, well logs (gamma ray, sonic, porosity, density, ...

Underground contour (UGC) mapping using potential field, well log and comparing with seismic interpretation in Lavarestan area

Coastal Fars gravimetry project in Fars province was carried out to find the buried salt domes and to determine characteristics of faults in this area. The Lavarestan structure was covered by 4203 gravimetry stations in a regular grid of 1000*250 m. Depth structural model of this anticline made in previous studies was based on geological evidences and structural geology measurements. In order t...

ModDRE: A program to model deepwater-reservoir elements using geomorphic and stratigraphic constraints

In deepwater-reservoir modeling, the proper representation of the spatial distribution of architectural elements is important to account for pore-volume distribution and the connectivity of reservoir sand bodies. This is especially critical for rock and fluid-volume estimates, reservoir-performance predictions, and development-well planning. A new integrated stochastic reservoir-modeling approa...

Predicting stratigraphy with spectral decomposition

Interpretation of subsurface geology is greatly enhanced by 3-D seismic data, and this accounts for its ubiquity in today’s search for hydrocarbons. Seismic interpretation has two fundamental disciplines at its core: seismic geomorphology and seismic stratigraphy. Plan views allow the explorationist to apply principles of geomorphology, based on analogies with modern sedimentary systems, to int...

Detecting buried channels using linear least square RGB color stacking method based on deconvolutive short time Fourier transform

Buried channels are one of the stratigraphic hydrocarbon traps. They are often filled with a variety of porous and permeable sediments so they are important in the exploration of oil and gas reservoirs. In reflection seismic data, high-frequency components are sensitive to the channel thickness, whereas, low-frequency components are sensitive to the channel infill materials. Therefore, decompos...
